    There are so many Hollywood films that are more racist than this one that are out there, lol. I say release it, but have some disclaimers of course explaining how this depicts how things use to be.

    Uncle Remus is nothing but the noblest of mentors. He has elements of Obi-Wan, Gandalf, and Tom Bombadil. The villain of the story is a rich repressive Karen. How do some people not "get it?!" 1:00 He's more like a Tom Bombadil type of character. He's jolly 'despite' his circumstances, not 'because' of them. Again, some people aren't able to "get it." 2:18 So cancel bigotry, not the movie. 6:08 The story takes place after slavery was abolished. A lot of freed slaves, like Uncle Remus, stayed on those plantations because they didn't have anywhere else to go. I reiterate that Remus's jolly demeanor is 'despite' his circumstances, not 'because' of them. 7:19 "Fight ignorance" says the guy who apparently doesn't know when the story takes place. 7:25 "After the Civil War." So he knows when the story takes place.

    Warner Brothers has handled this right with Looney Tunes. They re-released all the episodes with a disclaimer warning, introduction commentary and discussion on the issues. Censorship is not the answer bc it pretends it never happened and only by acknowledging can we learn from it.

After watching "The Wonderful World of The Brothers Grimm" I can't help but ask out of curiosity, did you know that the Costume Designer "Mary Willis" (She was actually the Costume Designer for SOTS) won an Oscar for the film, and are you related to her or anything?

    You wanna ban something you bunch of censorship nuts! Ban the damn verse in The Star Spangled Banner that’s racist! And to make the ball players stand & put their hands over their hearts is much worse! Making them do so is telling them what to do...mostly by shaming them! I found that horrendous! I totally supported them when they didn’t stand! Same with the damn masks! (It’s a tactic of manipulation & it’s always claimed for “the greater good” but rarely is it! This is usually used in communist countries! There’s a big hint!) And those that have the JOB of pitting people against each other have done enough damage! As there are those who have no idea this goes on, on purpose to keep the population divided!) Furthermore, that song glorifies WAR! Ban THAT! Not great music & the contributions of this wonderful Vaudvillian who may end up in obscurity now that it’s banned! IDIOTS! SMH! 😡

  • @cynthiaennis3107

    So flipping ridiculous! That song won an Academy Award for BEST SONG! That Vaudevillian singer/actor, James Baskett, was FABULOUS! WTH?? I saw this when I was about 3! I’m sure I saw this either on TV in the 1960’s or at a Drive-In! I remember this wonderful song & this wonderful man singing this happy song! I had wanted him to be my friend or part of my family! He played such a joyous character & I bet he was a happy man! And if he was willing to use his talent to make this movie, why is it banned NOW?? To this day...because of what I remember, I LOVED that character & still do! And I still LOVE that great song! ♥️

    The problem we keep having is that people keep trying to view historical works through the lens of today's standards. If you keep doing that, we'll have to erase everything we've previously done. There will be people 50 years from now looking at the work that is released today and thinking the same thing.

    Typical revisionist history. We can all pretend that the holocaust didn't happen. And subsequently ban Schindler's List. We can all pretend slavery didn't happen, too. The fact is: Song of the South was set during this time period. How about Gone With the Wind? Is there a movement to ban that film because it is set during that time period, too? Shame on Disney for bowing to these history revisionist wackos.

    This isn't about slavery.....I DO believe "Uncle Remus" owned the moral high ground in this movie. He taught these white children life lessons through parables while their father was skipping the area, afraid of being caught up in the war. I first watched this movie as a young child....before I had any conception of racial bias. Viewed today, we can easily cite the deplorable conditions of Black slaves in the south. His stories taught me ethical standards and made sense. I saw the language as unique....much as Gullah is a unique dialect. I grew up as an Air Force dependent in Japan, and color meant nothing. It wasn't until, perhaps, third grade that I began to notice my Black childhood best friends weren't at the NCO Club for Prime Rib Sunday Brunch, because they told me they weren't welcome, that I began to learn of the sickness of the human condition, and the social constructions that we were forced to learn. Today, I feel cheated of an education in history, because of the institutions and events that were never in my texts (relative to Black and Native Americans). But Uncle Remus rose above the question of slavery and taught the children, and Americans who saw this movie, a universal moral ethic that rose above his status as a black slave.

  • @scottrobinson9334
    @scottrobinson9334 2 роки тому

    Funny they talk about the language being racist even though now we see hundreds of videos referring to this type of language as African American vernacular, even though it was blasted by prominent civil rights leaders like Maya Angelou and Jesse Jackson when it was first introduced as ebonics, and they say it is a part of black culture, if it is black culture it's not a stereotype, and if it's a stereotype it's not part of black culture
